Hayenwatha remembered as Hiawatha, he was a great orator and ally to Deganawidah, the man from the North, celebrated even today as the Peacemaker, due to his successful campaign to create a peaceful and prosperous society, where previously there had been only long years of violence and inter-tribal warfare. Deganawidahs allies included Jigonhsasee, remembered as the Mother of Nations. Together they created a peaceful democracy among five tribes of Native peoples, a true democracy that lasted hundreds of years and still exists today known as the League of Nations.
From this was crafted the American constitution and was used as the model for the United Nations. His work continues today as a new confederacy which honors the authenticity and the autonomy of each individual member, be it a nation, state, tribe or culture. The Iroquois Confederacy of Deganawidah and Hiawatha is thus a microcosm of a planetary society, with the great Tree of Peace that they planted as the grounding, the rooted basis for all nations to coexist in friendship and harmony and for all parts of ourselves to come together for new ways of being.
Deep symbolism was placed that would remind us and keep alive the Great Tree of Peace and its truths its wisdom its heart. Above the Great tree of Peace, Deganawidah envisioned an eagle whose far-seeing eyes would be alert to the slightest sign of danger to the great trees roots and thus peace.
The Great Tree whose four white roots of truth would spread throughout the world in the four cardinal directions, carrying news of the peace. These roots could be traced back to this source tree by any nation or people yearning for peace, consolation, and kinship. Deganawidahs world centered itself on the well-being of all people. The sorrow of one became the sorrow of all, and the kinship and succor of all beings was regarded as the potential the Great Spirit had implanted in the human heart.

Iroquois Confederacy, self-name Haudenosaunee (“People of the Longhouse”), also called Iroquois League, Five Nations, or (from 1722) Six Nations, confederation of five (later six) Indian tribes across upper New York

“We came to completely change the way things work, but above all to change mindsets so that people open their eyes, see the world, and so that we never fall into that trap again. People are here; democracy is slavery. There is no democracy in this world. They pretend there is. They do as they please. And to establish it, they kill. Democracy that kills. We do not want democracy. May God spare us from that kind of democracy. We are focused on our conquest, on our rebuilding, and on the revolution. It is the only path to development.”
Thus, when he says “democracy kills,” it can also be interpreted that he is condemning a geopolitical process whereby “democracy” becomes a justification for regime change, foreign domination, and violent restructuring. These narratives have been used recently in both Venezuela and Iran, where actions against leaders are framed as justified interventions.
