A cycle of abuse from being colonised. The methods used then is the ongoing plan of those who took such action against the indigenous now turning it against humanity in full. It was violent and violating against the people then as it is now. It was a strategic plan of the greedy, power-hungry and corrupt that included causing poverty of the people, separating the people and whanue, causing the people to fight among themselves and like any abuse cycle those exposed to it often go on to repeat it by being abusive to others.
